For over 70 years, our family-owned business has been threading together the fabric of our community with quality sewing machines, top-notch customer service, expert repairs, and classes that encourage a passion for creativity.
Our History
Originally located inside The Outlet department store in Providence, Rhode Island, Blaine’s Sewing Machine Center was founded with a simple mission: to provide quality sewing machines, expert service, and knowledgeable support to the local sewing community.
Following the closure of The Outlet department store in the early 1980s, Blaine’s established its own independent storefront. As the business continued to grow, it eventually moved to its current location at 1280 Oaklawn Avenue in Cranston, Rhode Island.
In 2005, Blaine’s manager Karen Roy and her husband, Bob, became the owners of the business, continuing its tradition of expert service and community care.
In 2025, after years of preparation, longtime Blaine’s manager Kate Palaski and her husband, Tim, who also worked as a service technician at the shop, became the new owners of Blaine’s, taking over from Karen and Bob. This new chapter continues the legacy of dedicated service, technical expertise, and a passion for sewing that has defined the business for generations.
From its humble beginnings in a major department store to its growth as a trusted independent business, Blaine’s Sewing Machine Center remains a cherished local institution, serving generations of sewing enthusiasts with a commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and community.
